Our big Halloween weekend!
It feels very weired to be writing about Halloween when Christmas is right around the corner, but I suppose that's what I get when I don't blog for two months. Anyway, like I said, we had a very busy Halloween weekend this year. Sarah Meredith got to wear her costume to preschool that Friday. I was actually very proud of her. She decided all on her own what she wanted to be. I figured the day or two before Halloween, I'd go through her dress up clothes, pick out a few outfits and then tell her to pick one. I had no intention of having her settle on a costume weeks or even days before Halloween because I just knew she would change her mind by the time Halloween night came. However, the Wednesday before Halloween, I picked her up from school and she said, "Mommy, I'm going to be 'Bad Kitty' for Halloween. If you're not familiar, Bad Kitty is a character from a children's book. I, of course, made sure she was really serious about the idea before I started sewing a costume for her. I knew I was going to have to make her costume. I am certain there were no "Bad Kitty" costumes at the store.
Here she is doing a craft with her class.
Layton got to join in on the fun. Here they are listening to a story together.
On Saturday, our neighborhood held a costume parade for all the kids. It was so much fun. There was a fire truck, a pumpkin patch, a craft for the kids, treats, and a hay ride. Sarah really wanted Layton to dress up like "Poor Puppy" which is the companion to Bad Kitty. I told her that was very sweet of her, but I felt like we were more likely to get Layton into a pirate costume than some puppy dog ears.
And finally here we are Halloween night. Layton was beyond excited to go trick or treating. This was the first house we went to. When no one answered the front door, he went and started banging on the garage yelling, "trick or treat". Yes, this boy was desperate for some candy! Sarah Meredith was very scared of everyone's spooky decorations. She wanted nothing to do with spiders, witches, and scary music. She pushed through though and got that much anticipated candy. When a neighbor would hold the candy bowl down for her, she'd peer into and say, "Which one of these is chocolate?" Should I be appalled that she said something so rude or should I be impressed that she already knows what the good stuff is?
